Procreate HB and 6B Brushes for Paint Tool SAI 2 (January Update 25.01.2020)

Paint Tool Sai is a well known software for Windows in the digital art field, it is light software and easy to understand and work with. However classic Sai lacks a lot of advanced features and brush settings, but thanks God Beta Sai Ver 2 - 25.01.2020 update specifically- added revolutionary features that advanced the usage of paint tool sai; Such features as Perspectives rulers, scatter brush, effect brush, brush groups and dynamic rulers and more!! i highly recommend switching to Sai ver 2 Beta as i guarantee its current smooth flow without lags.

Also those who tried procreate are fascinated with its  HB and 6B brushes , and many wanted to have these tools for sai.. So i made these brushes available  for sai using the  scatter brush which is only found in Sai ver 2.

Follow the link given below and :

copy the files with similar names (BMP and .int) to the following destination C:\Users\Username\Documents\SYSTEMAX Software Development\SAIv2\settings\scatter

Copy the Grain BMP file to C:\Users\Username\Documents\SYSTEMAX Software Development\SAIv2\settings\brushtex

Create new scatter brush, select the brush shape and texture and adjust settings

I suggest playing with the density and tweak some settings to experience and understand how scatter brushes work

this japanese site has some pretty nice sai 2 blotmaps available, and a nice collection of sai 2 brush settings available as well. even if you have sai 1, their collection of papertex bmps is useful, and i haven'r found them available anywhere else.

I use this for almost everything! Great for painting and sketches.

Really nice for different effects and painting, if you tone down the smear and broken ground it's nice for rigid lines.

I love this brush a lot! If you want to go more for an oil brush look, this is the brush for you!

A need for soft overlay layers and rough coloring(When you get lazy)

someone asked me how to paint leaves being backlit by the sun so here's a pretty simple process for that.

while i'm painting this i'm looking at a reference, of course, and thinking about the physical properties of light and how they interact with things, specifically leaves:

leaves are translucent; some light passes through and some is bounced off. it's technically really complicated but basically, when light bounces off of them into your eye, they look… idk, normal? maybe a little glossy. but when light passes directly through them and into your eye, they're super bright and saturated. here's what it looks like with a guitar pick.

i don't play guitar

anyway, i started with the leaves furthest away. they're getting hit directly by the sun, and let's say they're slightly above us, so light is shining through and they're bright as hell. then as i add more and more layers of leaves on top, working toward myself, they're getting hit with less and less light. the leaves in front of them are blocking it all so they get darker. then you have the leaves closest to us which are actually a little lighter than the layer underneath. they're being hit with some ambient light (the light that's reflected off of other things in the environment). not enough to be really bright and colorful, so they're pretty grey, too.

as for the shapes, the whole time i'm really just playing around and seeing if what i come up with looks okay. there's a balancing act going on regarding how much of the lighter leaves in the back are showing and how/where i place the darker leaves in front to make it look as interesting as possible. it's a lot of trial and error but you get a sense for it the more you do it. that should also be considered with the entire picture in mind, as opposed to what i have here in this little grey void.
